Common Mistakes When Storing a Luxury Auto

December 6, 2018

Whether you are going out of town for a week or need to store an entire collection of supercars, you need to protect your investment while it’s in storage. Improper preparation or storage of your vehicle can lead to a host of problems, including paint damage, flat tires, engine damage, and more.

The luxury auto storage experts at Parc Fermé have put together this reference list to help you avoid common mistakes when storing your vehicle.

Mistake #1 – Storing Your Vehicle Outside

We can not stress this enough – whenever possible avoid storing your luxury auto outside. Even for a few days. Luxury autos, exotic cars, classic cars, and supercars should not be left in your driveway exposed to extreme temperatures and other natural elements.

Leaving your car in the heat for even a short period of time can cause damage to your exterior paint, interior leathers, and even your engine. Even if you cover your vehicle, it will still be exposed to pests and rodents. Whenever possible, safely store your vehicle in a temperature controlled garage or space.

Mistake #2 – Storing a Dirty Car

Before you place your car into storage, you must properly wash the interior and exterior of your vehicle. Dirt, bird droppings, and sand are just a few of the things that can cause permanent damage to a car’s bodywork and engine. Before you place your car into your garage, be sure to thoroughly clean the exterior and interior.

Mistake #3 – Not Changing the Oils and Topping Off Fluids

If you plan on storing your auto for more than a few weeks, it’s crucial that you get the oil changed. Contaminants in used oil can cause engine damage. It’s very important to change the oil before placing your super car into long-term storage.

Mistake #4 – Forgetting About the Battery

Car batteries lose their charge if they aren’t used on a regular basis. If you aren’t planning on driving your car for an extended period of time, be sure to turn on the engine for a few minutes every month. If this is not possible, remove the battery from your vehicle and store it in a dry space. This will keep the battery from draining over an extended period of time.

At Parc Fermé, We provide trickle chargers that connects to the battery to keep the juices to the maximum.

Mistake # 5 – Self Storage

Perhaps the biggest mistake an individual can make is choosing to store their luxury auto in their garage. Indoor auto storage facilities provide the ideal environment to store your luxury vehicles, supercars, and exotic cars. Not only are they climate controlled, but they also provide a safe, secure, and discreet location to store your vehicle until you are ready to drive it once again.

Luxury vehicle storage facilities offer the following benefits to vehicle owners –

–  Protection from extreme heat.

–  Protection for external elements, to include dust, debris, and pests.

–  Climate and humidity control.

–  Around the clock, security to ensure your vehicle is safe and secure.

–  Cleaning and detailing services.

–  Fluid checks, engine starts, trickle battery charging, and other general maintenance service to ensure your vehicle is fully functional when you’re ready for a drive.

–  Tire Cushions or some call it tire cradle to protect the tires from getting damaged.
